regular, mid-grade or premium gas. what do you use on your LT1???

I have used premium gas for my LT1 ever since I installed my HPIII. This is because there is a setting on there that tells your LT1 that your ONLY going to feed it 93 octane gas. Well, I went back to stock programming and am thinking of going down to regular gas. What do you guys use???

The LT1 is supposed to use premium only because of the higher compression ratio. Id say only use 92 or better no matter how you program it.

I have always stuck with 93 for my TA. Just never thought of going with anything less.

I've never tried it, but theres a chance that your gas milage will go down slightly negateing the change you saved going with the lower grade. Purely speculation. The money for rebuilding your bottom end can also come out of the moeny you saved.

It says right in the owners manual to use premium. All those people driving around using premuim with their 9:1 compression ratio are wasting their money, but you actually need it buddy!

This guy didn't have very good luck dropping it down from premium.

I've ALWAYS used the highest grade pump octane available on my F-bodies. Why buy a performance car and run it on crappy gas??

That's exactly the way I feel. If you wanna run 87, buy a Civic and become a rice-boy!

i think you're right on this
it seems that if you put 87 or 89 in an lt1 or any high compression engine, it will tend to burn more rapidly because of the lower octane
i think i tried this with my camaro (usually use 89) and went wit 87 because i was almost broke, and it did seem to go down a lot faster, and i was doing normal driving (but, it is pure speculation on my part as well)
thanks ice for bringin this up, i'm thinking of gettin a 4th gen z, and this was a question i was going to bring up

i always use premium. if its cost that bothers you then do the math.. its only about $1.50 more for premium over regular unleaded if you run your tank bone dry.

Premium only....less chance of any detonation resulting in timing retard and lost power.
