Regrinding a cam from a stock lt1 core?

I just got off the phone with Wilhoitecams and the guy that works there told me they take stock lt1 cams and regrind them into whatever you want. Anyone heard of this? Reliabe? Degree on or can it be way off? I'm just wondering if its worth the 135$.

Yeah you can do it that way.... you can do that to any camshaft actually. You just can't do a lot to it, meaning it limits your LSA, lift and duration.

When you go to Comp, Crane, Isky, Crower they all start with a new cam core. The core starts off as a rough ground and heat treated core for certain lobe specs. If you are grinding a 260° @ .050" duration lobe with .440" lobe lift you need a different core than a 210° @ .050" duration with .300" lobe lift.

You would be better off going with one of the big name places.

What if I was just trying to duplicate the HOT cam or CC503?

Isin't the Hot Cam pretty cheap anyways?

The only way to get the CC503 is to have those lobes to duplicate. That's why you get that from Comp Cams.

Well... I wasn't going there but that's the best idea yet.

Ive heard the the 10 degrees seperation in the HOT cam helps with unspent gases and helps to recirculate them back into the intake charge. Supposidly it helps when you dont have an EGR. That could all be speculation though. LOL
