reduce timing help for over heating.

well its reall hot here in tx. well any way when i drive in to town the car warms up fast (210) it will go back down once i hit the hiway but not as fast as i would like. so do you think if i reduce the timing at the rpms i operate at in town and on the open hiway a little it will help keep it cool.

just an idea. please tell me yea or nea. or if its a tupid idea to begin with

by the way all this is with the A/C on. and i know that dont help.

retarding the timing increases heat due to increased emissions and such increasing timing will be smarter most overheating is caused by less timing

If I remember correctly, someone did a test for closed throttle and found out that more timing actually kept the temperatures lower.

what are your temps with the A/C OFF I dont think you have a problem stock cars run 210-220 all day long with a/c off.. Plus what thermostat do you have in your car?

it all sounds normal to me. I dont think you will keep the temps down when in town just not enoguth air flow too keep the a/c condensor cool.. the heat from it is what makes the water temp go up.

Do you have Water Wetter in your coolant? I've used it on several LT1s and noticed a good 10 degree decrease in operating temperatures with it.

As for the real job, yes, I do have one - I post on camaroz28.com.

ion i was going to email you the other day to ask you what are some good mph #s to start at when redoing the shift points a on a car with 3.73.

can you take the percentage of gear and multiply that times the curent mph setting and and it to it. to get a ballpark to start at.

the car has a 230 236 on a 112. i dnt know if that matters.
