Redoing header install.

Next month i will be reinstalling my freshly ceramic coated pacesetter longtube headers. My ? is will the coating on the headers foul my spark plugs or my O2 sensors. I just installed new plugs and O2 sensors and would not like to replace them again. I have heard that the coating burns off of the headers on the first startup and fouls the O2 sensor. If this is true is there any way to salvage my O2 sensors.

I have heard the same thing. Do you not have the old 02's you took out? Also, why are you "re-installing" them.

I assume that since he said they are freashly coated, that he had them coated................

if you have old O2s, use them for a few, if not, leave the O2s out and warm it up(I recommend the old ones, just so the holes are plugged(I have plugs I use))

Will it start and run for a while with no O2 sensors. I though they send info to the PCM telling it whats going on with the engine. And if there is no O2 sensor the engine would just turn off. Also i think i still have the old O2 sensor, how long should i run them befor i install the newer ones.

As far as I know, the computer only uses the 02's when warm. For how long to run it, I have no clue.

Start it without o2s in and let it burn off for a while. My car is running on 1 o2 sensor at the time too because im waiting for an extension to show up... runs fine, i have a plug on the driver side.

Does anybody know for sure how long to run it until all the coating that is going to burn off actually burns off.

Re: Redoing header install.

Just let it run for a few minutes without the O2s. I wouldn't bother to plug up the holes or anything if it's just going to sit there. It shouldn't run really rich or anything, mine ran just fine after my header install. If the car gets up to operating temp it might set an ses light but that will go away once the o2 sensors are reinstalled.

Re: Redoing header install.

One my O2s went out two weeks after my header install. These O2s had over 100,000 miles on them so I'm not sure If the headers caused this or just age of the O2. It didn't bother me since they were original O2s.
