RED ALERT! LT1 in distress!
Re: RED ALERT! LT1 in distress!
Start the car with the radiator cap off and let it heat up. Keep adding water/coolant and crack the valves. When the valves aren't bubbling or hissing anymore and the radiator is topped, the system is full and you can close it all back up. You may have to do it a few times over a couple days to get all the air out of the system. Oh, and put a few rags under the bleeders to keep them from dripping on anything important, like the belts or opti.
Re: RED ALERT! LT1 in distress!
im going to have to try that..... opti? i think when i did it earlier tonite, a little water came out and dribbled over the water pump.... although, right afterwards, i went halfway down my street and EVERYTHING just shut off, no power to ANYTHING, had NOTHING to do with that though, it was my branch connector, it had a loose connection, and i pushed that @#%@$^@%$^ all the way home before i figured it out!!!!!
Re: RED ALERT! LT1 in distress!
air deflector? whatever it is must be on, because the car didnt overheat for a while after i got it. something new i suppose, it was all good with the thermo, and the fans stopped working, then i put the fans on constant, and it still didnt work, but i later found out i had almost 0 coolant in it because in the overheating i was boiling over, so that was a mess, and im gonna clean it up tomarrow lol
thanks a lot for all your advice, i bought a book on camaros of my year from chilton and i should be more prone to working on this car more in the future.

Re: RED ALERT! LT1 in distress!
You want to drain it as stated but you also want to be sure to flush the heater core. Se sure to look for oil in the water and also water in the oil. Leave the bleeder screws open while you fill it and close them when it over flows. After you let it warm up, be sure to open the bleeders until coolant flows out. Be sure to clean the outside of the radiator and take the shield off the top of the radiator and look for debris in between the radiator and AC condensor coil. I found a plastic bag in mine.
After filling and running the engine, allow the engine to cool and check the resevoir for correct fill level. Check for overheating again and if it does, you will need to check a few things. Look for bubbles in the radiator, pressurize the coolant system and or do a leak down test.
