Recipe for 475 fwhp.....is it possible?

Well I'm trying to come up with an engine build plan for my project car.....

I would like 475 fwhp without spray or forced induction. It does need to run "somewhat" civilized however.....

Is it possible? If so what recipes could you suggest?

I'm starting out with a 95 LT1 motor....its going into a Porsche.

Thanks.........RAY

A L.E. or A.I. head/cam package should put you into that ball park. A stroker will pretty much make it assured.

Got any links where I can read up on this?

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm not real familiar with the LT1 platform......yet.

Sorry. Try searching the forum for Lloyd Elliot or Phil at Advanced Induction.

What model Porsche? What transmission/transaxle? If it's a rear-engine car, this will be a challenge. If it's a 944 or 928 it should be a tad easier, but 475 hp might be a strain for the driveline.

Of course if it's a Cayenne (non-turbo) SUV, it would be an absolute HOOT, especially when you popped the hood at your local Porsche dealer. Is that cool, or what?

couldnt he just mount the motor backwards? then use whatever tranny he wants and use a v-drive?...that would be cool but im sure far to much fab work..

Hey guys,

Its going into a 1988 944 Turbo....
The turbo trans is fairly tough, as long your not trying for smoky burnouts it will be okay........I hope!!!

Hey Alex - I just realized that your 'large' cam in your 350 is rather puny compared to the one I'm having ground for my 383 right now. Got your trans issues worked out yet?

Sorry for the hijack.

...or hard shifts, or sticky tires. It's not the burnout that's hard on it, it's when it gets traction.

I'm concerned about your driveline durability. A 475 fwhp SBC is probably going to have 425-450 lb-ft peak torque if you do it right, and that's nearly twice what the turbo made. It's probably more than the 944T driveline can live with. What's the use of having the power if you don't show it off?

If it needs to run "somewhat civilized", a 355 will be makin lots of torque. A thought: How about a 305 (4.030 x 3.00) which makes 475 at about 6500-6800 or so and doesn't have a boat-load of low-mid torque? The right combination could still be fairly civilized to drive.

Another thought: Find another front-engine/transaxle driveline and swap it in. C5 Vette is a pretty good copy of the 944 setup, and might fit. I think shortening the torque tube about 14 inches and fabbing a new driveshaft is feasible. You could use pretty much everything from the water pump to the rear wheel lug nuts, including the LS1 which comes with it. Now that would be one sleeper!

Not sure what the conversion is but I think I am around 450fwhp. I would need a bigger cam to get to 475. Something in the 230 range at least. Even then, I think it would fall short.
