Recharging the AC?

I'm in the middle of a cam install right now, and in the process I had to remove the AC condenser. This of course totally discharged the system so that there is no pressure. I didn't think that this would be a big deal as recharging it is rather simple and cheap. But one of my mechanic buddies told me that it would be different from just recharging it because I have totally depressurized the system. So my question is, what do I have to do to return my AC to normal? Thanks for any help!

you will need to get it vacced i would recommend changing the drier now that the system has been opened. it should be pulled down to negative 35 psi for about 45 mins to get the air and moisture out and to check the sytem for leaks then it nees to be charged with r-134 if you have your own guages charge on the low pressure side only. the operating pressure on high should be 250 psi high side and 35 low side. i recommend taking it to the shop if you have never done this.

Thanks for the info, any estimates on how much a shop would charge for this?
