Recall Info
Hey guys, I have scan code P0400 and I think it is the EGR valve. My car is a 97Z, does the recall cover this and if so, do I just go raise hell at G.M. to get this done or is it pretty simple. Thanks alot

400 is the EGR. It COULD be just carbon deposits in the surrounding lines, but usually is the valve. I had mine done this summer for free. Some dealers say no, no matter what you say, while others say yes no questions asked as long as you are showing the code.

recall
Phone any local dealer, if they are in any way credible all they need is your vin number to check the vehicle for recalls(campaigns), if it is a tech bulletin they don't have to do the repair if the vehicle is off warranty, all recalls heve to be done the
dealer can't refuse. I work at a Pontiac dealer in Winnipeg, Man.

Actually it's a TSB, so only if you ar ehaving problems, eg: SES P0400
If it's fine, you're not gonna get a new one out of them just because. The letter I got at the dealer says:
Some customers of 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Camaro; Pontiac Firebird; and 1996 Chevrolet Impala, Caprice; Buick Roadmaster; Cadillac Fleetwood vehicles equipped with a 5.7L (RPO LT1 - VIN Code P) engine, may experience failure of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve due to corrosion of the internal diaphragm plate, leading to driveability complaints of a check engine light for EGR valve (DTC P0400); or engine stall at idle, runs rough or surges.
