Rebuild questions

I have been searching for answers to some questions and i cant really find anything.

I have a 1996 Trans Am 138,000 miles

I have 1500 To spend

I spun a rod bearing and want to do a rebuild.

I do not race the car and just want to juice up the preformance and make it sound nice. I also live in SC where no emissions are needed

I am going to have the crank tuned and machined/balanced if possible. I am also going to try to get some stuff for the valvetrain.

Do i really have to replace the connecting rods?

i was looking at one of these kits on summit
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Also i want to get a slightly better cam in it... not cc306 somewhere between stock and cc305. how much does a custom grind cost? I really want to try to find one that has some lope but i dont have to do much tuning to the computer. Also, do i have to upgrade to 1.6 or can i use OEM rockers. I know im going to get springs do i need aftermarket or can i go OEM for a small cam like i want. Lifters and pushrods do i need to replace? What kind of timing set do you guys recommend? Im going to be keeping my opti. Im going to replace water pump and im getting long tubes.

Please help me out guys i dont really have a post count over here but im pretty regular over on z28.com

Re: Rebuild questions

use the cc918 springs and 1.6rr and have your rods looked at or i would just replace them but you dont have to,but i would replace the one that spun no matter what.

Re: Rebuild questions

Heres what I would do: Summit Rebuild kit with the GM Hot Cam kit and Arp head bolts, main studs, and connecting rod bolts plus all the machiene work etx. That will really decent and be able to hold up great and put out a little power.

Re: Rebuild questions

Does the Gen 1 350 connecting rods/lifters/pushrods interchange? The rebuild kit plus the hotcam kit and the headers is getting me a little over budget alone
