I don't really understand what you are asking. Can you clarify your question for us?
By rebuild, do you mean pull the motor out, bore out the cylinders, replace pistons, new cam, head work, etc, etc ... or do you mean a tune up with plugs, wires, and some new gaskets
And by modify to weed out problems, what exactly do you mean there?

Re: rebuild or modify?
well to clarify all questions i will tell...the problems i am having are as follows
first off sometimes i have had the got kinda bog down for some reason and it feels like it is going to die (10-0 mph), then when i take off again it runs fine and then stays that way, this happens bout once every 7-10 days and i drive it a couple miles a day maybe.
next whenever it gets hot the tranny shifts ( 1 & 2) jerks really hard no matter what speed, i let it sit and cool down its fine.
also i have been have small leaks which in turn seem to lead to gasket replacement
and then again i would like to do your "complete rebuild" with cam, heads, intake, headers etc...thought about the LT4 package
hopefuly that has answer your questions

Re: rebuild or modify?
Check the plugs and wires etc. Do some basic tune up stuff first and then see how the car runs. Locate the source of leaks and see if you can replace the gaskets, shouldn't be too hard to do yourself. Check the condition and level of trans fluid might help to have it flushed and replaced. But depending on mileage etc. It may just need a tune up and then you'll be good to go

Re: rebuild or modify?
The problem with modding when you have problems is you may never know if the mod is done correctly unless it's running correctly(depending on the mod of course).
It would be best to fix it first then mod it. Also get a scanner of some sort and learn it inside and out. For example, you could have a code right now and not even know it. Several codes do NOT set the SES. The fact that you have an OBDII doesn't help simplify things either.

Re: rebuild or modify?
lol. Don't do anything yet. Search around and don't just buy the LT4 package. There are a few porters who post here that do exellent work and can get you more than the LT4 package can. Just research a little while until you really see what direction you want to go and what kindof budget you have. If you just want to commute on this thing then just fix it, you don't need a new motor. The hesitation/bog is probably a tune-up problem.
Money is what decides everything........first find out your budget.

Re: rebuild or modify?
I agree with White Night, Dont really get into the lt4 package. It sounds like a tune up may be the answer, but check into it alittle deeper. Once you find the problem, figure out how much u need to fix it. Theres really no need in spending alot of money on a new rebuild if you dont need to do it. As far as the lt4 package is concerned, there are alot more bolt on options that would give you much more hp at a cheaper price.
