Reasons for blown head gasket?
Reasons for blown head gasket?
What are the reasons for a blown head gasket?
I don't have one but it sure as hell is trying to get there.
New thermo stat, new water pump....
fully bleed.
Problems
Low coolant light is still on...water boils and shoots out cap...on a hot day temp almost reaches the read zone when heavy on the throttle. It takes both fans to cool the car down to normal operating temps...(via manual switch) and at times with both fans on it still heats up to the read zone.
My next mission will be to replace the original hoses and radiator as the radiator has debris in it and is bent in places.. rather rebuy than refurb.
lately I've noticed heavy condensation around the exhaust tips... but it's been murky weather... so I'll ignore it for now. No milk in oil. but this over heating issues has been slowly increase for over a year and I've tried all but the above to fix it with no problem.

Re: Reasons for blown head gasket?
Replace the overflow cap. If its not holding pressure it will allow it to boil and loose coolant, then youll overheat.
Also your radiator may be clogged up from the pellets GM put in the dexcool. (if you haev the dexcool)

Re: Reasons for blown head gasket?
Actually i just noticed he has a 95 so he has the green stuff already. Id still replace the radiator if you suspect its clogged or damaged in any way. Especially since its the middle of july!
Re: Reasons for blown head gasket?
who sells the cap for cheap?
I remembr a while back when I went to get the coolant flushed... the guy had a hard time with the cap. He suspected it was leaking for a moment... and the fact that coolant shoots out of my cap ... may point a finger to there.

Re: Reasons for blown head gasket?
You might already have a blown headgasket in the form of combustion gasses getting into the coolant, that will cause the cap to blow off, and to heat up the coolant too much...you need to have the coolant tested for NOx, we have a little hand-held siffer that looks like a turkey baster, the liquid in it changes color if there are combustion gasses in the coolant.
Re: Reasons for blown head gasket?
My head gasket isn't blown I just broke the engine down less than a month ago. The car hasn't been taking the hot weather to well. It runs regular in cooler temperatures like at night etc. Which is why I'm thinking about the radiator. The car isn't cooling like it should be.

To bad it's not true...
But nack to the original story... I said the water shoots out the cap... I emnt to say the over flow. I get collant shooting out the over flow.
