Is this a reasonable price for heads/shortblock combo?
I've been chatting with a builder and this is what's been offered to me so far, these are the basics. I haven't got into specifics yet:

Most of the hawk is already apart and I will be putting in a BMR k-frame when the block comes out. The block is pretty much the only thing left in.
We can assemble a 408 stroker that will be a little more cost effective for your application for $8,864.00 or $8,993.00 plus shipping. The difference in the two prices is depending upon the type of timing set that is used. The 92-94 models used a spline drive distributor and the 95-up models used a pin drive distributor. The later version is a high performance,roller pin upgrade that lends to the reliability of higher output applications and the earlier style is a factory replacement. If you have not upgraded to the pin drive distributor, then the assembly would be the first price listed, if you have the later style ignition, then the second price listed will be the cost. The complete assembly would include the following;
LT1 Pro series block with Callies Magnum crank/Callies Compstar rods/SRP Pro series pistons/JE plasma moly rings/Clevite H series bearings/Comp Cams hyd roller camshaft/Cloyes timing set/Dart Pro 1 cylinder heads/Fel Pro HP head gaskets/ARP head bolts/internal balance rotating assembly. The prices that I quoted you are for the assembled short block with the heads and camshaft/timing set installed. If you would like for us to assemble the complete engine (oil pan,timing cover,balancer,etc.) just let me know and I can figure up the cost for that. If you would like to send us your oil pan and components, we can clean and install them as well which would also reduce the cost over purchasing new components.
