Unhappy Rearend noise? Is this bad?

Hello all,

I just installed a new 10 bolt rearend with a aftermarket auburn posi and 4.10 gears. They guy I bought it from said that it was already setup and working perfectly. When he shipped it to me, he removed the axles and all the fluid for shipment, I put everything back to together and when I started to drive it, there is a slight to moderate whine when I let off the gas between 40mph to 0mph. I havn't driven it faster the 40 mph because I don't want to damage the rearend further.. I have only put 10 miles on it since installation (most below 25mph).

I have herd the 4.10 gears are noisy. I also have a complete suspension setup with a Sphon TQ arm, aluminum driveshaft, LCA, LCA relocations, panhard.. I have royal purple gear oil, and GM posi additive.

Is this normal.. any help is appricated.

The whine usually occurs when the rearend was not setup properly. Do you know what brand the gears are?? Richmond gears are infamous for whinning.

Arrow Gear make?

Well, I am not sure who makes the gears, but if they are richmond, should I worry about it, or drive it as is.. I will email the guy to find out. There is no whining when I am under throttle, only when i take my foot of the gas and let it cost.

I would say it's either the "normal" gear whine or your pinion depth is set incorrectly..

check out this link...

http://www.dippy.org/svcman/sm03.html

it's got some good rear-axle info on gears...

Resetting it isn't an easy thing to do...

For most people I'd have a reputable shop listen to it and then if they think something is up have them check it.
