Rear making noise when turning.....

My rear is making a noise when ever I make a big or sharp turn. A freind suggested that I need some rear axel grease and some limited slip fluid. I bought this rear used and had it put on about 2 months ago. Could the fluid be low that is making the noise. Thanks.

my rear did this once. i changed the fluid and used mobil 1 80-90 oil and a tube of the limited slip additive from gm this is the best stuff out there and all the noise went away. If you use the stuff from uto zone or checkers it will still make the noise you have to use the stuff from gm i dont know why but it works and for 6 or 7 bucks its well worth it in my opinion

good luck
Steve

this is a reply to a question that I posted a while back, however, it is the front that is making the screeching noise on mine...this is the solution to the problem that is describe for the back...first for starters....

the loud scretch you hear when your turn a corner is your axle shaft comming out of the axle..your rotor closes the distance on your caliper and thats it you hear scrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeetch.

your c-clips are worn out inside your differential...replace these and your good to go..no more play in your axle shafts.

BTW you can verify this by jacking up the car and tugging on the rear wheels if they move more than 1/4 of an inch ..the clips are worn..

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the picture. But now I don't have an allen wrench big enough to get it off. I have 2, one is too big, one is too small. Nothing is ever easy for me. Does anyone know what size wrench I need. I am gonna have to go buy one, or maybe a whole set.

Actually I just used my socket wrench without a socket on it, worked fine. (I was in a pinch, drained rearend and didnt have another car to get a real wrench needed)

If you have a ratchet and an extension, you should be able to get it off.

Pennys58,

I am having the problem (and sound) you described. A screeech when I make a hard turn from the left rear wheel area. I just put new rear brakes and rotors so I thought maybe I did something wrong. I do have about 1/4 play when I pull in and out on the axle.

I am going to check the C clips as you suggested. Anything else I should check based on your experience?
