rear main seal direction

rear main seal direction
i think i'm going to do my rear main seal myself and i am not sure what is all involved. So if someday knows a site with very detailed instruction that would be great or if somebody could just give me direction through this post.

I have read posts that say don't take the seal housing off if you don't have the pan off. You can replace the seal without removing the housing. If you remove the housing, you wil have to pull the pan to get it back on. Just what I have read.
