I'm replacing my clutch and leaking RMS ('94 Z28)and after a search dug up info about the seals for '97 cars being an improved replacement over the stock GM '94 seal.
The part # is GM 12554314 (2 lips instead of 1 and teflon ?)
I called the dealer and he confirmed the part # for '97's but could'nt tell me if it was a improvement.
Anyone have any info ??

 

I never heard that but if its so the 97 RMS housing is probably different as well.

 

From what I've read on this board while researching the same topic is most people go with the OE. I think the '97 is rubber and has a triple lip design with is supposed to be superior to the earlier designs. Apparently it fits. I used a '95 RMS for my '95 car because I forgot to ask for a comparison at the dealer. Oh well. You could go to the dealer and ask to see both of them.

 

I used the one that came with the hot cam lit....

 

I plan on going to the GM dealer tomorrow to take a look a the '97 seal ....I also read it was perhaps made for the '96 LT4.

 

Chekov, did the 97 RMS work out for you I have a 95 vert and need to replace mine.
