rear gears
i have a 2.73 gear ratio i want more power out of the hole, how do i know what ring gear diameter i have i plan on getting the parts from summit, and is the chunk they have for 400.00 and somthing dollars any count?i havent done this yet because i dont have the proper tools or the know how to do a gear swap help please?
I will help you young grasshopper.
I just recently went from 2.73 to 3.42. Minimum you are going to need the following:
1. New carrier (3 series) - can be purchased from SLP for $99...Zexel Torsen
2. New ring/pinion - look on ebay...i got new GM 3.42s for $100
I recommend buying the following:
1. Install kit w/ carrier bearings, pinion bearings, shims, and seals. SLP carrier comes with carrier bearings but mine were damaged in shipping.
2. SLP reluctor ring for ABS - purchased also from SLP for $20
As far as shops I would look around town for one. If you live near Memphis I can recommend a few. Don't try to do it by yourself if you have never done it before or you are not comfortable working on cars.
