rear end question

Ok, I recently had the problems I posted in this thread http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306017
Out of no where today, after putting gas in my car thy went away. Now im really confused. But now all the sudden my rear starts whining. Could that have anything to do with my problems in my origanal thread. And does whining mean just new gears, or a whole new rear?

i had a constant "whine" coming from the rear of my 97 LT1. I would only hear it when the car was in forward motion. The faster i went, the higher the whine. Turned out I needed major rear diff. work. pinion bearings were shot also. when was the last time your had your rear diff. checked/serviced?

I have an Auburn posi that whines like a b*tch. Is it better to rebuild it or slap an SLP unit in there?

Re: rear end question

I did it on my 97 z28 without removing too much. It took me a few days working a little at a time. Probably 4 hours total. It was my first time. I didnt remove anything major but I did all the right side from the top layin face down on the engine. The back one on the drivers side was done from below. I did the middle two on the passanger side easily but #2 and #8 are a pita. 2 isnt too bad if you take your time. For 8 I recommend you jam your hand down there with no u joints or extensions and hold the wrench on the spark plug. Have someone rotate the ratchet wrench one lcick at a time while you hold the wrench on. You will be in excruciating pain for about a half hour. I did all my dirver wires quickly but i still have done the passanger wires.
