Rear end grenaded, what to get and where?
Rear end grenaded, what to get and where?
So, my rear end finally blew up, but it did it in an interesting way. One of the bolts holding in my pinion gear backed out, loosening up my pinion gear, and that in turn, ground my pinion gear actually in to my posi unit. Well anyways, I need a new posi, I've already got some new gears, and I believe (according to the mechanic) a new spider gear and 3 new bearings? Now I don't know too much, so I have no clue what the spider gear and bearings are for, just trusting the mechanic(he's a good one) but, where would be the best place to get a new posi? I don't want a locker, because I like handling more than drag racing, but I still want a hi-po unit, so I was thinking an Auburn Hi performance unit, but I don't know where to get it. Also, is there anything else I should know? Please reply soon, I need my car back
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the replies, yes, the 12 bolt is too much, I won't need it, I don't drag my car too often. Well, eaton posi, I've heard from some people these aren't as good as auburns. Well, so, no 12 bolt, any other helpful words?
From what I understand, the Eatons are rebuildable while the Auburns are not. My stocker is in bad shape and I'm looking at saving for the 12-bolt but if I didn't have such big (stroked) plans for the motor, I'd have an Eaton in there already. Oh, yeah, the 12-bolt will have an Eaton in it.
A few years back I bought an Auburn Sure Grip for my '84 Chevy 4x4 that broke the locker. The truck didn't feel as sure-footed as it did with the locker -- ie: it acted like it had an open rear more often than I liked. Note: the Auburn Pro has a higher spring pressure for better 'posi' operation -- sorry, can't remember exact terms on their website. Last I checked it was more than the Eaton ($$$) and it still isn't rebuildable. The Eaton can have the clutches replaced if they get burnt up.
