ok so i just had the rear pinion gasket replaced. After getting the car back i notice when i am backin up with the sreering wheel turned all the way that it makes a clicking sound like the driveshaft is sticking on something. also, after the sound, a spray of rear diff fluid is stuck on the ground like it was sprayed on there from the diff. any ideas?

i have looked, cant see anything right now, cept for the fluid that sprayed everywhere. I am wondering if adding some limited slip additive to it would make a difference. It is posi

You MUST have the posi additive in the rear diff fluid or it will certainly make that clunking noise.

Mine did the same exact thing - was really loud sounding too. I changed the rear diff fluid and used the GM additive - all gone!

Not saying this is your problem, but if sounds like it could be. Easy fix too.

Yeah, and it got progressively louder until I did something about it. Many shops will not add the GM additive when changing your diff fluid. I checked everything - turns out the previous owner didn't add it either. Once I changed the fluid with the additive, it was perfect. Towed boats many thousands of miles with the Z since - no problem!

Ask the shop if they used the additive, but I bet they didn't.

they didnt. why wouldnt they? thats kinda dumb. but im ok driving it until i bring it into the shop tomorow? i was just wondering if missing the additive would cause that. did yours sray diff fluid when it clunked?

 

Well, mine didn't leak at all. Are you sure yours is leaking? Maybe that oil on the diff is from when they changed it?

Believe it or not, MANY places won't add the GM additive unless you request it. You need it, or it will make noises. You'll be fine driving it for now though.
