Rear brake replacement? (quick question)
Are there any special tools needed to replace the rear pads on our cars? I have done plenty of front discs and rear drums but have never done any rear discs before. Anything I should look out for? Thanks in advance,
Kyle

Thanks Shoebox. I saw the blow ups of teh calipers and mounting brackets on your site. Thnaks!!! Do you know of any install guides or am I really making this a bigger deal than I have to? Thanks again,
Kyle

Don't know of a guide, but it is not all that hard. You might want to have a big c-clamp (like 6") handy to compress the pistion. Leave the old inboard pad on when you compress it. You will need to do this to get it back over the rotor with the new pads. Pay attention to the "H" clip and put it back like you found it (hopefully it was in the right place
).
).
ya watch out for them "H" clips mine where rusted off and i cant find replacements anywhere anyone know where i can get them? thinking this is my proublem with rear brakes making alot of noise.. but anyway what he said very easy to do..

I'm not wanting to "rebuild" anything. I just really want to replace the pads and put it all back together. Is it still fairly easy?

The litle H clips are just there so that the spring on the pad has a smooth surface to move against (smoother than the metal of the caliper). The inboard pad moves in and out with the piston and so that spring on the pad will rub against ~1/4" of that H clip track thingy. So shine it up and maybe put a spot of lube on it to keep things from binding and causing squeeking brakes!
Well Shoebox, I finished the brajkes. I was going to do a write up, thinking there must be some people out there who could find some use of it. In all honesty, it was easier than the fronts so...
It would take longer to write it up then it did to actually do the pads. It was two bolts per side to remove the caliper and then the big C-clamp to push the caliper in an open position. After that, I made sure the H-clips (thanks for the pics Shoebox) were inplace and popped the new pads in. Bolted it back up and done. Thanks to everyone for the advice,
Kyle

That kit you guys talk about from Autozone, who makes it? We don't have an Autozone in Canada that I am aware of... I checked with the dealer and the only way I can get that H clip is by buying the GM pad set... If you can remember who made the kit and the part number if possible, that would be great.
Thanks
Thanks
