Yeah, they make a special tool for compressing the piston, I just use a C clamp though. You may want to spray a little WD40 or liquid wrench/equivalent on the moving parts and work them back and forth a little just to make sure they move freely before you put the pads in.
I would clean everthing up soak and clean your pins and check the intyegrity of the boots. and use high temp gease when you reasymble. Oh yea use the high temp grease on the back of the pads in areas that have metal to metal contact.
