Real world price for the LE1 package?

I'm just trying to get an idea on what the total cost for getting a LE1 package would be. I know the LE1 is $1200 plus shipping. But after including the prices for all the other parts required to install the heads/cam [timing chain, gaskets, pushrods, lifters ect ect ect], what is the true price for getting this package?

I'd say almost double it if you want to include the "well since i have this apart anyway" sort of stuff.

This man speaks the truth. You can get away with less than double, but like he said, you start replacing stuff while it's apart so you have less problems down the road. Or to make sure you have as few gremlins as possible when it's time to tune the start-up mail-order tune.

I'd say at least double it. You're going to need headers, tune, gaskets, the list goes on....

Not everyone has a blank check to work on a project. Some people have to figure budgets before diving into something big like heads/cam. It's bad to start a project and then find out you don't have the money to finish it half way through.

That and some of us are just the planning type.
I personally will go over a project quite a few times in my head so that I feel like I have thought about it from every angle so I don't end up with a bunch of surprises or mistakes when I start to get my hands dirty.
Budgeting will always come up at some point when I'm trying to cover my bases.

When I looked at it, after the price of headers and the new exhaust system fabrication, bigger injectors, a tune and the other parts necessary to get it done, I was looking at about 2400 bucks. That's why I've got stock heads right now.

This says it all, I spent more money than I care to share on just a cam only setup.

It really depends on how far you want to go. Technically you only need a gasket kit, but I would replace the timing chain and pushrods as well. Even then you only need the chain, not the whole kit. People get wrapped up in replacing everything at once and there isn't anything wrong with that, but it isn't needed and does add up fast. To put a LE1 setup on your car it should only cost around $1500. You can replace headers, intake, TB, elec wp, etc. later when you get money.

I like that. You can always use a good chuckle before work.
