real hard brake pedal... barley any brakes???

this is one of many problems i have with the car right now... just finished heads and cam swap and now the brakes suck... and if you push the pedal a couple times fast it gets hard and barely moves... looked for a vacuum leak but didnt see any lose hoses... anyone have a diagram of all the hose connections and a way to test for a leak?? i heard of spraying something around the lines and if it stumblesw thats where the leak is.. what is it that i should spray?? also could it be low brake fluid or that for some reason they need to be bled?? started the car at first with the vacuum hose off of the brake booster and the cap was off also... any help appreciated

thanks
jeremy

I'd put a vacuum gauge on your intake and then work up stream. If the brakes were just fine before your work then it makes no sense why you would have no brakes now.
Did you do anything to the brakes during the swap? Maybe a stupid question, but did you make sure the brake booster vacuum line was secured onto the intake vacuum port properly? You'd have to have a pretty serious vacuum leak for the brakes not to work. Is the EGR hooked up or do you have a blockoff plate?

highly highly doubt it.
you may want to recheck your valve adjustment.

you need to put a vacum gauge on the line that goes to the booster to see if you have enough vacum to run the booster. posibly a stuck check valve or a bad booster if you have good vacum. i doubt the brakes need to be bled, if that were the case you would have a spongy pedal.

Your not getting enough vacuum to the brake booster.
