Real bad stumbling, rough idle, Please Help

Hey guys, I have a '94 Z A4. It has 57K miles. All stock except hooker cat-back. Car was running fine 'til tonight. I got in it, it started perfect. When I came to the first stop light, the car started to stumble or buck, not sure how to describe it (the engine was shaking the car). When I put the car in neutral, it clears up. I did notice the exhaust smelled pretty bad. I didn't get an SES light so I don't know what is wrong. I didn't get a chance to really get on it but it seems to run ok other than when first coming to a stop. Any ideas? Anything I should look for? You guys are awesome. I know I can always find great help here.

well get it scanned at autozone they do it for free, that can be a start, just do the basic's, plugs, wires, fuel filter, check yr coil, could be bad or a bad connect, just pull the wire off and look to see if its dirty, wipe it clean and see what happens, if you do all the basic tuneups and yr still having a problem it most likey the opti
