ready to blow up motor!!

Im ready to ****in blow my **** up!! So i replaced everything when i did my cam swap and i have a ticking noise comming from pass. side head. It started as no oil comming up from #4 piston and knocking. So put 2 and 2 toghter and theres the problem. WELL i took out the lifters and checked to see if it was clogged and it wasnt and clean so when i put it back i swaped it with another lifter to rule out a bad lifter. Put it back toghter and the "bad" lifter i put in a diff. hole was the first to lube the rocker and the orig. hole was now getting oil. So at that point everything was getting oil and well lubed...... ticking still there. So today i took my covers back off and that same rocker is now NOT getting oil again. WTF, and the ticking seems to be getting louder. Iv boggled all the minds of engine builders here, they just tell me time to rebuild. I got 60/40psi of oil pressure. Adj. the lifters anywhere from 1/8 to 2 full turns of preload and the noise doesnt change a tone. I swaped rockers with others.. same noise. This is complete garbage Heres what my vavletrain consists of......

did you let the lifters soak before installing? Or are you installing them dry?

you spun a rod bearing i gaurentee it. i did the same thing. I thought i had a collapsed lifter and replaced everything with the hot cam kit. tick/knock was still there so i tore down the bottom end and sure enough it was a spun rod bearing. but yeah no oil coming to that cylinder and a new valvetrain but the knock still exist. i would put money on a spun beraing.

your post is difficult to understand, but if you ran it long enough for it to start knocking with no oil in the #4 bearing I'd say you cooked it.

ok so if its a spun rod bearing why would it do it from the inital start up? Right off the first start up it did it. Why would it do it then and not when it already had 100k on the motor? And if it was a spun bearing wouldnt i loose oil pressure?

Spun or burned bearings, could be rods or mains. Time to pull the motor. I would guess your bearing were on the edge of death and the new characteristics of the bigger cam drove the nail in the coffin. This happens a lot with cam swaps, the engine is used to the stock cam then sees something a tone bigger IE: the 847 so somethings gotta give. Could also have been some contamination that made it an oil gallery.

Knowing what I know now I would never install a bigger cam without pulling the motor to replace all bearings. You can have a single bad bearing and not drop the oil pressure significantly BTW.

Drain the oil and look for shavings. If its bearings then the evidence should be there.

sounds like a lifter to me.......if it was a bearing or piston pin then you should be able to here it. Put your old lifters back in it

well it did the noise with the old lifters too so thats why i bought new ones. Now when i first start my car the noise it barely there and when it warms up it gets louder too. And i drive it and it drives fine but does feel like it has a flat spot in the power curve at like 4k and up. So i guess when all else fails i run the car and when something gives then i found my problem, lol.

I THINK I FIXED IT!!!!!!!

In the whole process i noticed more then normal rubbing on the one pushrod. So i took off the studs and inspected the guideplate. And wouldnt ya know, the noisey one had rubbed away some material away from the guideplate. So i put it back on and got the guideplate as low as i could get it and tighted it down. Ticking gone and now getting oil!! And you cant move the plates very much thats why i never checked it but like the saying goes "a little dab will do ya" cause the .00001in. i moved it, it went away. Im crossing my fingers untill tomm. when i could run the car more and really be sure. But as of right now its all good!!!
