Reactions and a question about my new XE 224/230 and heads setup

Just got the cam in last weekend, it sounds amazing. It seems to run quite a bit stronger, but I notice some surge down low and it's a little poppy through the exhaust. Right now, I'm on the stock programming. My question is how much of a difference will programming make, will it smooth the car out? Also, does anyone have a pcmforless tune with a 224/230? Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to get a dyno tune. But in the mean time, till you can get a dyno tune, you could always get a program from pcmforless, or load one yourself. It will help eliminate some of that cam surge, and rid you of that running rich problem you seem to be having (popping noise)

How do you like the cam otherwise? I have considered this one, as well as the 230/236. What made you choose this cam?

With a cam like that you definiately need a PCM tune. Dyno tuning can be $$$, and IMHO won't give you that much power over a regular PCM tune.
Drop Madwolf (www.madz28.com) an email, he can load you up with a reprogram.

PCM tuning

If he can't help you, let me know. I'm running this cam in my 1995 Camaro.

If you have tunercat, I have a file that you can use to begin tuning with, or just let me know what all you have done to your car and I can set you up with a really good base file.

Thanks for the help so far...as far as the cam goes, I love it. It feels really strong all the way through the powerband even on stock programming. I bought the cam in a kit from cmotorsports.com (great company to deal with by the way) and they talked me into the 224/230. basically if I would have had a higher stall (mine is 2800) and would have been willing to rev to 6500+ I would have chosen the 230/236. I was told that the 224/230 would make a little more torque on the low end, and would run just as good or better than a 230/236 in a quarter mile run. I'll find the results of that out soon as I have a friend with a 230/236 and basically the same setup as me other than that. We will be at the track together soon to make a few runs together.

I just got this cam installed also. I love the cam but I think I have a vacuum leak I have to get fixed really soon. Pcmforless is mailing me the program to upload in my computer for the cam! I too got it from combination motorsports. Awesome company!
