Question Re-installing my Intake to finish off Head Project question..

I am going to install my Intake tonight or tomorrow. I have done this before & I used a ton of RTV. I used it on the back & front & up the sides of the heads a bit, but even took it one step further & put it on the intake gaskets to help ensure no leakage. My question to you's, is that extra RTV I put on the Intake gaskets overkill & if so I should have no leaking problems with just the Fel-Pro intake gaskets right?

Thanks in advance..

Too much RTV will get sqeezed out and end up in the oil pan, then will get sucked up against the oil pump pickup screen, causing a partial blockage. Speaking from experience.

You should be fine just doing the front and back, and going just a lil bit up on the gaskets. I don't think you have to cover the gaskets. But, if you don't feel too good about not doing that, then spread the **** everywhere.

I read you were supposed to put a thin bead of RTV on the top and bottom of the intake gasket. I bought a can of spray on gasket and figured it would just be easier to spray a think layer on the top and the bottom of the intake gaskets. Is this a good idea ?

Oh i dont need hi temp RTV correct ?

But when you tighten down the intake it squishes the RTV out a little. You don't want ant of that peeking into the intake ports and disturbing the airflow.

Thousands of intakes are running just great without RTV on the gaskets.

The first time I removed my intake, there was no sealant put on at the factory on the gaskets.

I should add that when I reinstalled, I used a dab here and there to keep the gaskets from sliding around when I put the intake back on.

Didn't your gasket have those small plastic locator pins at the front and back??

It's been so long ago that I did it, I forgot all about those.
