Re-coating headers

I currently have FLP longtubes with their crappy coating on them which is starting to come off around the collectors. (This has me worried about holes in my collectors)

Has anyone sent their headers in to Jethot after they have been on your car? How do they prep the header before they apply their coating? If the headers are already starting to rust will it weaken the integrity of the metal to get them recoated?

I have no first-hand knowledge, but based on what I have heard and read on this board I'll gladly give Jet-Hot my business for ceramic coating. I friend of mine with completely rusty headers sent his to Jet-Hot and when they came back they looked like brand new. They're quite the metalurgists!

There are a few people, I'm among them, who have Jet Hot coated headers that are rusting just like yours. The majority of the rust is on the collectors, exactly as you described with your FLP coating. I know they would recoat mine if I sent them back but I can't bring myself to go through another header install without knowing 100% the coating would last. Just a word of caution before you go through the hassle of taking off your headers and recoating them. You might end up in the same spot you are now a year or 2 down the road. I'm not saying Jet Hot is a bad company or their coating is bad, it just seems every once in awhile a bad set slips through. You might want to check out Paul Berry (sp?) or talk to more people who have had their headers recoated before jumping into such a big task. Just my $.02

Even Paul Berry's coating isn't infallable.

All coatings are going to be susceptible to chips from standard road debris. As they age, after being chipped they will rust. If you catch it early enough, getting them recoated can save you several hundred dollars for new headers.

I am purchasing a set of used LT headers, originally coated by Paul Berry. They are three years old, and have been chipped slighly from things like gravel and such and started to rust a tad, and he is recoating them.

I personally am willing to pull them every two or three years for a refresh on the coating if it means not having to buy another $500 set of headers. Especially since many of the coatings are covered with a warranty so in some cases, the recoating is free.

I have jet hot hooker LT's and the coating is just coming off all around the collectors... I should prolly get them recoated, but I really dont feel like taking them off paying to get them recoated, then putting them back on, maybe if the pair of LT's I have from this old chivelle will fit my car.... but if not i dont like the idea of me not having my car fora while again.
