randomly run

ok my buddy just got a 96 trans am. the guy he bought it from was a complete idiot and spliced alot of crap into all the 12v wires such as glowing racing pedals, and ipod adapter(radio, power, etc.), a fan switch, and some power cord going to a sub in the back. everything was running fine but now all of a sudden it just completely shut off. so we sent it to the dealership and they started it up fine ran it around town and did everything and there was nothing wrong. now we got it back home and it ran for a little bit and just shut off again. we have power inside and everything but when it shuts off there is not spark to the spark plugs. we changed the coil and detatched (i think) all the crap the guy spliced into the 12v wiring exept for the fan switch. we also made sure there is powering going tot he coil with a little light tester. also now that it shuts off randomly when we lock it with the remote the lights go up and then back down and doesnt honk like it should. what do you guys think? I just dont see how it can be so random? maybe something with heat?

With all the aftermarket stuff that was installed, the first step is to make sure you have everything aftermarket disconnected and all splices that were previously made wrapped up or wiring intact/correct. Check for blown fuses and check for power to all the fuses (especially IGN fuse in the instrument panel-drivers side) since you do not have spark.

we've taken all the aftermarket stuff off. and ive checked all the fuses. there is no IGN fuse in the slot but there never had been on unless im mistaken. but i dont even have one on mine 00' camaro. from what ive read around here just slapping on new parts isnt the answer. its something to do with the signals telling the spark plugs to fire, the wiring harness, or the computer. least i think so?

There is an IGN fuse in the engine bay on the driver side, I believe its a 10 amp, if thats blown it will cause a no start. Then there is the PCM in the dash on driver side, 20 amp IIRC.

If they are fine I would have someone try starting it and you move the coil and ICM harness's around and see if they might be loose. Same goes with the opti harness on the passenger side of intake manifold
