Re: random missfire...water pump leaking?

the scan tool from autozone will tell you the same as anywhere else. the codes have nothing to do with the scan tool. the codes are set by the pcm. the scan tool just reads them. if it says random miss, thats what the pcm says it is. it could be caused by anything in the ignition... coil, wires, plugs, opti, icm, bad grounds to the opti or icm.... theres so much. why couldn't it be the icm? its an electrical part in the ignition system. any electrical part CAN go bad, especially when it's subjected to as much heat as the icm is.

BTW, if it was just one plug, it would say, Cyl. # "so and so" misfire. It's the same with any scanner.

Re: random missfire...water pump leaking?

If water gets on your opti, its ruined period. I had a brand new vented one from the factory, and I leaked water on it the same day because I left my weap holes open. Wham I had to take it off and go get a new one. It wouldn't even turn over I tried drying it off, put a fan on it for a couple hours. Nothing.

The opti SHOULD be ok and protected from liquid when it's new. Even the vented optis are sealed with gaskets. Yes, when they get old and the seals go bad, they leak, but again, when they're new, they SHOULDNT leak.

Re: random missfire...water pump leaking?

blah, I had a leak in my water pump for about 2-3 weeks... hopefully this opti didnt blow up too... I thought the vented opti's could evaporate water inside them, because it has happened before. When you drive through a big puddle (im in lubbock, no sewer system) water gets on opti. I have had my car die before, and it took a day before it would turn back on, but it did turn back on. well, I am letting the dealership figure out what the problem is today, I have too much schoolwork to finish this week (finals week).

thanks for all the help,
I will post again when I find out the problem.
