Ram Air, worth the money??

I was thinking about buying a ram air set up. I was checking out the prices on them and they run around $300 bucks. It says it adds about 15hp, but is it really worth it? What other improvements might I see from it?

I like the looks of a ram air car, but i personally don't think it's worth the money to buy the kit if it's not already on the car. I'll take the CAI over it and spend the money on something else. I really don't think their is that much power to be gained between a ram air and a CAI IMO.

Maybe 1-2 hp @ 100+ mph. It's not a direct ram air effect, the air actually curves around a block to prevent water from getting into the filter/intake track.

Maybe

Well Like 97 charged said I do know our ram air compared to the newer ones flow much better because I have to clean the filter every 2 3 months on my ram air.. But at high speeds on a cold day like here tonight its worth it but like on a hot day a cai is better. so basically they both have pros and cons....

Ram air is ineffective at all speeds that our cars can achieve reasonably during everyday driving and passes down the strip.

It's a myth, a selling gimmick. But damn does it look cool!

Ram air is more of a CAI than any sort of "ramming" effect. It's a combination of appearance enhancement and a CAI rolled into one. Personally, I've done the switch, and think that it is worth it, for the looks alone.

You could always just get the ram air hood without the airbox assembly. The air going in will have an affect just by cooling down the engine a bit and then you could get a CAI so it's a little like the best of both worlds.... You get the amazingly mean look of the ram air without spending the $300 to make it functional.

my car ram air
friends car k&n cold air

We took freescan to both cars and the air pressure measurement or something was almost twice as much flow in my car then his

Plus if you don't drive your car in rain then you can cut the baffel and allow for straight air flow.

i used to have a regular formy before i got my WS^, and i had the slp CAI on the old formula. i swear i like the ram air setup better, some people can argue, but fresh oustide air being pushed, rammed or whatever has to be better than a CAI, i personally wouldnt go back from ram air to a regualr CAI. just my .02. later

The only thing better with a WS-6 intake setup Vs and Aftermarket CAI is piping losses... basically it's a straight shot for the WS-6 setup, especially if you de-baffle the hood... the CAI on the other hand had a bunch of bends that the air has to flow through to get to the Motor... those bends have losses that the RA setup doesn't have.

forget all those high dollar ram kits, go to home depot, buy some aluminum framing, a few small bolts, and a 2X4 and make your own under-the-car ram air like me! It cost me less than $15 and 1 hour time, and it works really well and looks cool from under the car.

Say what????

You seriously believe your RA setup flows almost twice as much air as a CAI? That would indicate your car is probably making twice as much HP. Does it?

my car makes about 30 more hp. I don't think that hp is only determined by air flow or pressure in the intake. The number may not have been twice as much but the number was very shocking to us it was a big increase at the same mph
