Ram Air Mods...

I have a stock ram air for a 96 WS6 TA. How can create some more power other then changing the filter? I hear you can cut some **** out to increase power and some other things... will I feel a difference?

Re: Ram Air Mods...

Basically no. You can cut the fins that are on the box, but you won't feel any difference.

If you ever drive the car in the rain, you really will not want to cut out the baffling in the hood, because that is what keeps rainwater out of your engine.

The best mod for ramair cars (firebirds atleast) as far as the intake goes is the Fernco coupler. I believe Fred came up with this one, and its only a $3-5 part. It replaces the hose that goes from the MAF to the T/B. Granted, you still won't feel a difference on the butt meter, but if you are just dying to do something to the car, its a cheap mod.

No baffles (not recommended for street driving), no top grid, Fernco coupling.

The only thing in this picture that really affects HP is probably the two braided SS lines running into the airbox. But I think it "looks better".

Yeah, because they uhhhh, draw cold air from under the fender into the intake stream, immensley cooling the intake charge, right??

I'm with Fred on this one, I don't think most of these are really going to help with power. I did the cutout on my lid, but have since gone back to a stock lid and can't tell any difference. I think removing the "baffles" in the hood would probably gain some power at speed, but you definitely wouldn't want to drive the car in the rain at that point.

I cut the baffels in the hood and just made a plastic piece to screw in if needed. But i haven't driven the car in the rain for over a year now. The plastic piece is there if i need it.
