Exactly what the two previous posts say. A WS6 Ram Air setup rocks all others. It's almost a direct shot into the throttlebody if you remove the baffles in the hood. The CAI looks to be not so good when compared to the WS6 because it has the bends in the system vs. a straight shot. Both are substantial improvements over stock and offer approximately the same gains.

How many people here actaully have the lt1 ram air scoop under the car and can vouch for it not getting water in the engine at all?

I do have the little homemade ram air scoop that is connected to my air dam. Its about three inchs high and eight inchs wide. I have only had it on for about a week and it hasn't rained since then. But, I can't see how I would have any problems with rain getting in there. There is about six to eight inches of clearence between the bottom of my filter and the plastic covering on the bottom of the well. I would think that the water that would get in there wouldn't be enough to soak the filter enough to cause any substatial problems anyways. Since the scoop is at an angle going into the well I would think that any rain would just splatter and roll off back into the vents. Kinda like rain drop on your windshield. Last I checked, rain drops aren't very manuverable.

Well, if you decided to go muddin' or somthing, then you might have a problem.

Later,
Jason

I live in Houston, TX... One of the wettest places in the country. I have had the air scoop on my car for almost a year. I never feel the need to jerk the wheel when I see a deep puddle... I just run right through it. No problems.

I have the cold air intake on my Formula. It's been on for 4 years and no problems. I completely removed that plastic shield from below the intake. I also remember there was a 1/10th of a second drop in 1/4 mile times after removing the whole plastic shield.

I had a CAI until i got my SS hood. I then traded for a ram air system. I can't say i felt a gain or a loss either way. I just wanted ram air because everyone with a Z can have a CAI but only someone with a hood can have ram air. It isn't a big deal it is just something to set your car farther apart than the rest. Plus ram air sounds cooler than CAI.

Hey Fred, is there any issues with getting caught in a rain storm with your set up? Won't that let a lot of water poor into the air box. I was thinking of doing somthing like that to mine but am worried about the rain. Not that I drive it in the rain, but there is always that chance.

ws6 ram air setup

I have the WS6 ram air setup on my car. The guy that owned the car before me installed it. I don't have anything but praise for the system, it runs like a jet engine and the faster you go the more efficient it gets. Have never, ever had any problem with water in the intake tract.

I've gotten braver since I've owned the car and one of my next do it your selfer mods will be to cut down the baffles in the hood and remove the plastic baffles on the air filter assembly.

Jon:

My car is "strictly track" at this point, so water isn't an issue. I do have a Moroso foam intake plug that I put in the scoop from the back, when I tow the car, because even a little rain when it is on the trailer will put water into the filter.

But, when the car was street driven, I cut about 1/2" off the bottom of the front baffle, and about 1" off the top of the rear baffle (the inside of the hood) and it had no problems in heavy rain. Just be sure there is some overlap on the two baffles, so the air has to drop down under the front one, then back up over the back one, dropping the water out the bottom as it turns the corner.
Earlier version.......

I think the Ram Air set up is the best. Why?, because I own one

But if I had a Cai. I'd probably think it was better which we all know isn't true

I got my K&N FIPK from this exact board for only $100. If Ram air and CAI works about the same performance level...then CAI can only be better.(Based on cost) I'd much rather spend $100 instead of $800+ for the same level of performance.
