radiator fluid question

now when the radiator coolant is full i always heard to make sure its to the top of the radiator neck, now by that meaning does it mean to the top of the hole where the overflow hole is in the radiator? Today when i checked the fluid it was below the hole like i can see coolant but not all the way to the top.

I then ran the car when the temp got to the 1/4 mark i pulled the coolant dipstick to check the level and it was past the hot mark saying it was full, now is my radiator coolant level ok b/c it made me nervous not seeing the coolant level to the top of the radiator when i checked it.i just wanted to know if the coolant in the radiator is fine, thank u guys

Re: radiator fluid question

If its near the top, as if you can stick your finger down and into the coolant you're fine.

Re: radiator fluid question

It varies slightly with temperature because it expands and contracts. It usully stays full to the bottom or middle of the neck, but it can only suck in coolant from the resevoir when it is cooling down so it won't be higher than the hole to the resevior when it is cool. Yours sounds fine, Why you so concerned about it?

Normally, it will be right up to the lip where the seal of the cap fits.
