Question Rack and Pinion Steering probs?

Hello all

I've had my car for a long time now and my steering feels kind of sloppy and its getting worse, i can move the steering wheel about an 1/8 of a turn to each side before the tires move, now i know it could be something else but is there an adjustment on our rack and pinion set ups that will allow you to tighten the steering up?

Thanks Mike

I've heard of the heat from headers messing up something in the steering system, making it sloppier. I also heard it was an easy fix but you'll have to wait for some confirmation or do a search on it.

Usually what gets worn is the "Rag Joint". It's mounted right at the rack, where the steering shaft connects. You have to remove the plastic cover that covers it, then you can get to it. Remove the covers and get someone to turn the wheel, see if you get any play.

I agree, check the rag joint. My steering developed a lot of play while back and it was the rag joint.

I replaced my rag joint with the steel piece and still have messed up steering, I'm gonna suspect ball joints or tie rod ends....

Its all common on these cars, especially if you run them hard
