Racing my auto lt1 some question on overdrive and stuff?

I haven't race a newer auto car. On my old 80 I usually got best results shifting manually with turbo 350 before shift kit and stall .

But for my 96..should I put it in drive or overdrive..it would seem to slow it down by having it in overdrive or does it matter.Should I let car shift itself or try to manually shift it.Heard that dont' work or isn't even good for these newer computer controlled cars.Should I bother trying to torque it up with stock stall ons steet tires.Obviously usually get best 60fts with traction control off right?? Lastly do the hpp shift features work ok or are they bad for the tranny. Is a transgo shift kit the way to go instead or in conjuction with some tweaking from the hpp.?Thanks in advance guys.

Put it in OD and floor it from a stop. If you car is basically stock, thats the quickest way to go. Manually shifting the car really doesnt do much in an A4. Those HPPs are crap! Get a real tune from someone who knows what to do. And dont ever get a shift kit and then use the HPP shift feature. I ruined a tranny that way.
