Qusetion about inlet elbow
Qusetion about inlet elbow
First time posting. This board has been of treasure trove of knowledge since I got my 95 Z28. Long story short, my air pump started blowing fuses. So when I took off the air intake to unplug it I found out the end of the inlet elbow (#9 on figure linked) that connects to the engine was trashed. So I ordered a new one from GM. As I was waiting for it to arrive my fuel pump went south. Yesterday I got the inlet elbow from GM but noticed that the hole that the lower duct (#10 on figure linked) goes to on the new elbow is sealed up inside. The lower duct can still be attached but why since it is blocked up?
Today a friend and I put the fuel pump in. Once finished the car started right up. But since every time I go to start the car it will not turn over until I put a little pressure on the gas.
My question is what is the lower duct for on the 95 Z28 and should the new elbow have the opening like the original one had? Do I even need it and is this why the car is not immediately turning over?
I have no code reader and I'm not getting a SES light. I will be having the codes pulled on Monday now I can get the car to a friend's garage. But any suggestions on what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance!!!
J

Re: Qusetion about inlet elbow
You must have gotten a 1LE elbow. They don't have the silencer (10) hanging down (not needed) and are actually more desirable.
Are you saying the engine will not start unless you push on the gas pedal? Turn over means crank.
Make sure you got the lower part of the elbow correctly onto the TB. It can be hard to do.

Re: Qusetion about inlet elbow
Pressing the accel pedal simply allows more air to enter. Could be flooding. You need to check the fuel pressure. Also, when you changed the inlet elbow is it possible you knocked the harness connector off the coolant temp sensor in the water pump?
Re: Qusetion about inlet elbow
Thanks for the reply Injuneer. I am pretty sure I didn't knock off the harness connector you mentioned off but I will check tomorrow morning. I was not rough putting it on. I got the bottom portion on and then worked the rest on.
I'll have my buddy throw a fuel pressure gauge on it Monday.

Problem solved. I double checked what you two told me to look for. Everything checked out. I then disconnected the negative terminal for 5 minutes to let the PCM reset itself. Hooked the battery back up, primed the fuel pump and started right up.
Even noticed the low coolant light which has been lit up forever is gone. Not sure why since from what I have read here is that it goes straight to the dash and not through the PCM? Regardless, my baby is back up and running.
Thanks for the suggestions guys!
