That does sound a little high.

I got my HC Kit, Headers, PLugs, wires, tranny cooler, and trans mount installed for $800

If you're just getting the cam installed, then it's way too high. There should definitly de a place where they do it cheaper.

Thumbs up

sounds a bit more than it should cost, but not unreasonable

12-14 hrs-
75-85/hr

900-1200
edit:
assuming its a cam kit- more springs and rockers (you cant do a cam without getting new springs )

Yep it seems like they are charging you way too much. I would call another shop. Is that price with parts included??

Plus you never know what those guys will break, or what threads they will strip in the process. Thats why I do it myself.

Thumbs down

I would do it for half that, but that’s just me. If you have the time and tools do it yourself. It’s really a piece of cake, and you'll save a ton of money!

If shops didn't have the overhead and stuff to work with, it makes it look like they are all driving Vipers to work because those rates are insane.

I would be stoked if someone payed me half as much for the work, thats nuts. I work with computers and I sure dont see that much money in a day, not two days either

Check with Brian at Spectacle Solutions there in Memphis. I met him up in Bowling Green one year, he's a real nice guy. You can check over at the West Tennessee F-Body Association if you'd like to talk with some people that have had him do some work.

I believe the best way to determine reasonable cost is to find out how many hours the book (that the dealer uses) and apply that amount of time to a reputable performance mech.

A good mech. may shave some time off that, as well as do a much better job. Tis better to have the job done right, no matter the time, than to not have it done right and be completed w/in the quoted time.JMHO.

Having said that, I believe it should take between 12-15 hours at between 60-75 hr., depending on where you live. So anywhere between a low of 720.00 to 1,125 is probably reasonable.JMHO

Oh. I see you are from Memphis. You should be able to get it done for around 12 bucks and a good dog.
