Quieter than a LoudMouth, but just quiet enough to not have to worry much about cops

What is there out there as far as a fairly inexpensive (less than or around 400 bucks) exhaust system that is nice and loud and sounds good, but not as loud as the LoudMouth?
Something thats loud enough to scare the crap outa people walking on the sidewalks, but quiet enough that at 2000 RPM's its not gonna get me pulled over?
I've heard Hooker is really good but just really quiet at idle.....thats not what i want....i want something thats nice and loud and deep at idle as well....
And yeah, i'll have a nice cam in the engine as well.....

My hooker is louder at idle than my friends LS1 with a cutout.

Just food for thought.

My fav catbacks are Hooker, Magnaflow, SLP 2OTL, and spintech.

My LEAST fav : Corsa, borla, and flowmaster

I have the loudmouth, replaced the SLP resonator with a dynomax race bullet. Sounds so much better, no drone and is only loud when you romp on it. Then I added center mount exhaust and that changed the tone for the better.

I have a Magnaflow and it sounded GREAT both before and after a cam/hooker LTs. It is also stainless and I got mine off ebay for under $300 new. Great catback!

PS. Best thing about it, when the car was close to stock, it was fairly quiet at part throttle, but got louder at WOT.

I hear that the chamberd exhaust systems sound awsome, better than anything......but the ones i see are way more expensive than Borla or Corsa.....
How hard would it be to make one yourself or have an exhaust shop do it?

im not sure if you have an LT-1 or an LS-1 but if you want something that is loud when you get on it then go with a flowmaster 40 series

Flowmasters are played out and sound like shiznit!!

I personally like my Borla and when I had heads/cam/etc it sounded awesome. I got compliments all the time from people saying that it sounded better than any other f-body that had ever heard. I had Mac headers, ypipe, and borla with no plate. It was loud all the time and thats the way I liked it. But, when you put the solid plate in it then it wasn't too bad.

But, the magnaflow does sound good and is decently quiet, but sounds pretty deep at idle and even at WOT. I haven't heard the hooker catback tho.

But, please don't buy a flowmaster..

electronic cutout would be your best option, you can alternate between quiet and really loud quickly and easily (and cheaply)

Sweet thunder chambered exhaust sounds great, have a muffler shop build it like the loud mouth.

If you want to spend some money and want a sweet system, then i would get the Borla catback with new tips ("intercooled" tips are hideous) and an electric cutout put in place of the plate setup.

A friend of mine has this and its just badass. Look into it.

Just put magnaflow on about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if thats for you at idle. Not that big of a difference but noticeable. When you get on it, i love the roar. I think it sounds so much cleaner than cutouts. But, obviously cutouts are goin to just be ***** out loud. The job took about 3 hours, but 2 of it was getting the old exhaust off. My friend even has lifts in his garage. I cant see doing it with a jack and jack stands. I dont know how much shops will do it for, but i hear over 100 bucks. If you are concerned about looks, i believe this is the best looking, with 3.5" stainless steel tips and a stainless steel muffler. Looks sweet when you walk away and it shines. Well good luck and have fun with exhaust. Later

I had Hooker, until this weekend when I put my Jet Hot LT's on. It was pretty badass sounding. I got many compliments on it.
