Quiet my Loudmouth
Quiet my Loudmouth
I have an SLP LM set up, hooker ORY, and Jet-hot LTs. I enjoy the sound at Idle, and at WOT (somewhat) but I can't go half throttle because it makes a horrible noise and I hate it. How do I keep supress this? What is a good (reletivley inexpensive) muffler to get in it's place? Does anyone have a soundclip of a similar system with a slightly quiter muffler?
Re: Quiet my Loudmouth
Ive used whats called the Dynomouth for a few years now. Its simply a Dynomax bullet muffler that replaces the SLP resonator. My bullet pn is 24222 and if I remember correctly was about $40. Its gonna sound better but its still gonna be loud. If you want to quiet the car down, you might want to look into more of a tradition catback like the Hooker of the Flowmaster.

I was gonna use it on my same setup, but would rather have the money right now.

There's nothing you can do about it as long as you're running no cats through it, so don't even bother wasting your money on a Dynomax Bullet muffler to put in place of the resonator...The best options would be to either put some highflow cats on which would get rid of all of that mid-range rasp and make the sound deeper. Or to just get rid of the Loudmouth all together and replace it with a Hooker cat-back which sounds a LOT better without the cats than the LM and has very little rasp that isn't that noticeable. In fact, the Hooker Aerochamber muffler has one of the best pure muscle car tones period...
A 3rd option would be to get rid of your Y-pipe and LM and replace it with a true dual X-pipe set-up dumping out some mufflers (bullets, sweet thunders, flowmasters, etc.) right before the axle. Great for max performance and racecar sound with NO rasp at all while running no cats...
