quicky about metal cooling lines

quicky about metal cooling lines
hey guys, i just took my heads off to have them ported and i just wanted to know something about those cooling lines that connect the heads to eachother on the back of them. are they a must have or can i just block off the ports in the back. i dont know if they are kinda like a throttle body bypass type of thing, i know it wouldnt yield anything, but you know just the fact of not having to have it. just let me know guys... thanks in advance
