Quick Time Bellhousing starter clearence

I have an LT1 with T-56 and a Quicktime scattershield after everything was put together and in the car the starter wouldn't bolt up had to grind some metal off of the starter nose to get it to fit. I was having some difficulity starting it the other day and the engine rocked back with the starter engaged and broke the drive end of the starter where I had ground it off. Anybody know a starter with a different nose that would fit up without any grinding or has anyone else had this problem? Thanks
