Quick question on head bolt torque!!!!!!!

My chiltons says 22in-lb which has to be wrong for 96-97 LT1's. Its says 65lb-ft for 93-95 LT1's. I am currently putting a head back on a 96 z28 and want to know what I should torque to. Should I do 65lb-ft like the 93-95's? need help quick. Thanks.

That would be 22 lb. ft. before adding the required angle torquing. (additional 67º for the short bolts and 80º for long and intermediate bolts)

Angle toprque? So torque them all 22 lb-ft and then the short ones should be torqued 67 additional degrees and the long ones will go around an additional 80 degrees? I am having a hard time understanding it then...please specify. Thanks.

You would need a torque angle meter similiar to this http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/LIS-28100.html to do that. I just torqued my heads to 65 lbs. in 3 increments 20,40,65 lbs. using a standard torque wrench.

Yeah, I have that very meter. Torque-angle is more efficient in providing uniform clamping forces as it is less affected by friction. I assume that is why GM changed the specs in 1996 from the previous straight torquing method. Probably a little better with aluminum heads on cast iron block, like the LT1.
