Quick question(fuel mileage related)...

I never let my tank get fully empty, so I usually fill it before it gets to the 3/4 mark... Well everyone knows how the needle goes way past "F" and stays there for a bit... I have been using the F-mark itself to determine how fuel efficient it is... I could have sworn I got 80 miles between being pegged to the right and the F mark... but need to confirm it was misread... I've been getting 40-50 miles until it reaches that mark... How many miles do you guys(with relatively stock LT1s) get between being really full all the way to when the needle gets to the F-mark on the gauge??

You are going to get all kinds of answers. It will depend on the individual car's gas mileage. If the amount of miles you get before getting to the F mark has recently changed, you probably have reason to suspect something is not right.

That's one reason I check gas mileage for every tank. It is an easy way to tell if anything unusual is going on.

Thanks shoebox... would driving a bit more aggressively(like shifting at 2500-2700 instead of 2000-2200) for about 15 min of stop and go driving possibly be the culprit of 15 miles?

yeah, it very well could be.

Mine goes like a quarter inch past the F mark and stays there for awhile.

Yeah, mine still does that... but I could have SWORN I got 80 miles once before it got to the little F mark on the gauge... I could have possibly mistaken it for 60... but I dunno...

Strange, I was just talking about this to a board member on 3rd gen cars. The fuel gauge seems to drop immediately after filling up. When it's on empty, I can only get about 11 gallons of gas in it.

I prefer the 4th gen accuracy a whole lot better.

Re: Quick question(fuel mileage related)...

I usually get about 120 to 130 miles on my stock 95 Z28 when the needle hit F. When it gets down to 1/4, it take a little over 14 gallons to fill.
