quick question about valve lash preload

I know how to find 0 lash, but I want to double check on how to set the preload. I think im going to do 1/2 turn preload for my stock lifters as I have read on the forum, that seems to work well. I read shoebox's page and he brought up mentioning what a "flat" is (1/6 rotation of the nut).

Now my question... When I read 1/2 turn preload, is that 1/2 a flat? or is 1/2 a full rotation on the nut, which would be 3 flats. Thanks Guys.

1/2 turn is 1/2 a full rotation of the nut. If you wanted more accuracy, you could count the number of flats. This is more useful because you can distinguish between stock 3/8" studs and the common aftermarket upgrades, 7/16" studs. One flat or 1/2 turn is not the same between different size studs.

The conversions and figures for all of this are also on shoebox's site, but I'm not sure where.
