Quick Optispark question

Im not sure what the previous owner did, but he gave me an extra opti when I bought the car. It was the original one that came on the car, and he replaced it trying to find a stumble...turned out it was plugs wires. Well now this opti is going bad, so im putting back in the old one. It looks like he unscrewed these two LITTLE weird screws..they are both sticking out. But when I spin them they dont do back in. Are these supposed to be like this? Or should all bolts and screws on the opti be tighened down. Its a 95 vented.

Thanks guys. If you need a pic let me know, I can snap one with my phone.

There are four Torx #4 size screws holding the cap on. Yes they need to be tightened down to hold the unit together and prevent moisture from getting inside.

If the unit still works which we hope it does for you... You need to use some silicone before you tighten everything down because of moisture getting into the unit...

Quick question about that. Im doing the opti change tomorrow, and ill be putting that silicone sealant on the gaskets..and I guess the opti too since you said to. It says takes 24 hours to fully cure. Well Ill be doing it tomorrow at prolly like 2Pm, and I gotta go to school the next day at 930AM. Thats only like 19 hours. Will that be enough time to cure?

Also, right after I install it, should I wait to even turn it on before it cures? Or just start the car to make sure I installed the opti right, then turn it off before it heats up.

Thanks

I really wouldn't worry about it. There won't be any pressure or anything in the opti to "blow" the seal. I would defintely crank the car up right away to see if it works.
