Angry Quick help needed LT4 STARTER

m6
dual cat stock y pipe

Alright, I'm pissed off right now cuz I have my car stuck in the apartment complex on jack stands and people aren't happy. How the hell do I get the lt4 starter up in the hole. I barely squeezed my stock starter from btwn the tranny and y pipe. But I'm having trouble right now with the fatter lt4 starter going in.

Do I have to unbolt the y pipe from the driver side header????

I already unbolted the y pipe where it meets the I pipe but it does no good.

Someone give me your quick reply from experience cuz I've already gone insane!

Thanks,
daniel

I thought the lt4 starter was supposed to be smaller then the stock starter. I could be wrong though. If it is then i think you will have to take the y-pipe off. I was told that it was smaller though.

It is slightly smaller, I really didn't see much difference in weight or size as I hoped for from what others said but it's no big deal to me right now. I'm more glad to hear that it will be stronger and quieter.

Anyways, has anyone else had to unbolt the y pipe from the driver's side header?? I seriously don't want to have to do that cuz I don't have all my tools with me.

I just did my starter a couple of days ago and the LT4 starter is smaller at the motor but the same size where it bolts up. I loosened the bolts on both header sides of the Y-pipe and lowered it about a 1/2" and was able to get starter on and off.

It's the general concensus that some need to remove the y-pipe, while others do not. You probably have a case where dropping the y-pipe is necessary.

Some people have also said that it takes just the right position to get it off/on. If you got the old one out without removing the pipe, it seems you should be able to get the new one in.

Have to drop the Y-pipe....and while you're at it how about throwing on a off road Y-pipe on there and save yourself the trouble of doing it twice? I have one for sale and located in SoCal.
