Stop fighting it and drop the whole motor. Not that difficult. Then you can sit on a chair in comfortable position and you wont have to say all those bad words.

i had not heard that before...

Yep, the lower ridge of the timing cover is the groove the oil pan seal fits in. The timing cover has to be installed straight onto the front of the motor due to the positioning pins (or whatever they are called) that stick out, so the front cover can't be pushed against the block and slid down into position onto the seal.....therfore the oil pan must be dropped slightly to get the seal in....and of course lowering the oil pan will almost certainly allow oil to get on the gasket surfaces causing it not to seal up properly.

Some have had luck at gobbing the front seal and gasket with Ultra-Black or the RIght-Stuff sealant to seal it up, but it makes it messy to remove in the future.

go back to rotating the engine. I believe you need to have it at 6oclock or else itll never come out.. the front counter weights are what keeps it from coming out. Ive had to drop mine twice and it about fell out once you put the engine in the right position.

actually that is a good idea I am going to try. I disconnected the crossmember so that i could tip the whole thing back, didnt even think about trying to take it up.
