Quick Answer Needed
Quick Answer Needed
I'm working on this infernal oil lean, and I've decided to pull the pan and make sure it's straight. I'm working on this in my driveway this time instead of on base on a lift.
Can the engine be lifted off of the motor mounts by using a hydraulic jack under the transmission (M6) instead of under the crank hub???
I just need to know if that's safe to do or not. I figure it's going to put a lot of stress on the input shaft, but with the bellhousing all bolted up I figure it's a crapshoot.
TIA.

Re: Quick Answer Needed
actually just did this about an hour ago to change the gasket, all i have left is the exhaust then to refill fluids, you dont have to lift the motor at all to drop the pan, unless you are trying to take it out. in that case, i have jacked up on the tranny before simply because i dont like that idea of lifting on the crank. i lifted on it right where it meets with the bellhousing, but not on the bellhousing
Re: Quick Answer Needed
Well, as it turns out, I didn't need to lift the motor. I actually finished everything in under 2 hours.
Found the mystery cause of the leaking like a sieve oil pan gasket. Don't know how in the world I missed that either (except for mistaking it for part of the stud).

I think that says it all. Seems to be leak free now. Yaay.
